City High Mens Soccer Coaching Staff
Head Coach Jose Michel Fajardo
Jose Michel has coached the Iowa City City High Boy's Soccer team since 2005. He took the boys to State in 2010 where the team placed 2nd in the state. Prior to coaching the boys, he coached the City High girls soccer team from 1998-2004 where he took the girls to State three years in a row and won the MVC Championship in 1998-1999-2001 and 2002. He received the honor of MVC Coach of the Year in 2001-2002 and 2006-2007.
In addition to his City High duties Coach Fajardo is the Sereno Soccer Club/Chelsea FC (AZ) ECNL Director, where he oversees all the U14-U18 teams.
Jose holds the USSF pro "B" and "A" licenses, and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He also holds two pro coaching licenses from his native country Spain: the Level I National License (which allows you to coach up to 18 years old) and the Level II National License (which allows you to coach semi pro players). His goal is to take the Level Three National License (which allows you to coach teams such as Real Madrid, etc) in the future.
Jose has been a Region II boys staff coach for the last five years, as well as, Staff coach for the last eight years with the University of Notre Dame and Stanford University Women's Soccer camps, and Indiana University Men's Soccer camps. He has also served as a volunteer assistant coach for The University of Iowa Women's Soccer program, as Assistant Coaching Director with Alliance Soccer Club, as the girl's Technical Director with Iowa Soccer Club, and as a volunteer coach with different men's semi pro teams in Spain.
Coach Fajardo has a long history of playing soccer himself in Spain. Jose Michel represented Spain at the U20 World Cup where Spain placed second. He also played for the following professional teams: Granada Club de Futbol, Real Betis Balompie and Ecija Balompie. After five knee surgeries and a torn Achilles tendon, still one of Jose's favorite things to do is attend daily training sessions with a semi pro team during his month of vacation in Spain.
